What is your professional experience? Why did you choose to get involved with Circle of Care?
For over ten years, Susan ran her own catering business, planning and organizing many events for her clients. She then followed her creative side and became a costume designer for the theater program at Staples High School in Westport, bringing the visuals of the stage to life. She is currently an independent fashion stylist with Cabi. Susan first encountered Circle of Care when she volunteered at one of our fundraising events. As she learned more about our mission and the people in our community, she became further involved and eventually joined the Board.
What do you do with Circle of Care? How do you feel your professional experience provides value as a board member at Circle of Care?
Having had a lot of experience with event planning, Susan helps us prepare for our many events. If you've ever been to one of our Galas, you've surely noticed the immersive visual displays that highlight the spirit of the evening. This is due to Susan's hard work and creative skills, which bring our gala themes to life. Susan also finds other ways to help - she's the co-chair of our golf committee and has led five dream room makeovers for children undergoing treatment. Her three daughters even helped with the room makeovers!
What do you do in your free time?
Susan has always been an active athlete. She wanted to run track in high school, but there was no girl's team. So what did she do? Never being one to let barriers get in the way, she ran on the boys' team and became the first female to ever place in a boys' event in her high school's history. Her love of sports continues today, including running, hiking, skiing, tennis, soccer, golf, and biking. When she's done with a full day of activities, she relaxes by plunging herself into an ice bath.
