More about Liz Salguero
Board Member since 2004
What is your professional experience? Why did you choose to get involved with Circle of Care?
Liz started her career in advertising as a TV producer for Young & Rubicam, where she produced national TV spots for clients such as AT&T, General Foods, TWA, and Johnson & Johnson. In 2001, her entire life changed when her son Carlos was diagnosed with cancer at age 2. Liz learned how isolating the childhood cancer journey was, and how few resources were available, so she took what she learned from her experience and dedicated herself to helping others facing the same journey by co-founding Circle of Care with Dawn Ladenheim.
What do you do with Circle of Care?
Liz is the Co-Executive Director, Chief Program Officer, and Co-Founder of Circle of Care. She is a leading advocate for families who have children with cancer, giving this tiny and often invisible population a powerful voice. She oversees Circle of Care's programs and manages the organization's staff and administration. She does everything from working closely with the leadership at our partner hospitals to providing one-on-one counseling to individual families. Having been here from the beginning, Liz continues building relationships with supporters and volunteers throughout all our communities to ensure our programs continue to grow and reach as many families as possible who need our support.
What keeps you motivated to stay this dedicated for so long?
To Liz, it's simple - the kids and their families. Liz is energized by the direct and immediate impact she sees on the families. She feels a deep sense of responsibility to ensure the long-term sustainability of Circle of Care so that we can continue supporting these families who rely on our help for many years to come.
What do you do in your free time?
Liz enjoys cooking and entertaining, or as she puts it, "making something out of nothing to feed large groups of friends and family." She's also a huge fan of Broadway musicals and loves watching shows with her family. If you happen to be in the West Village of NYC on a given weekend, there's a chance you might catch a glimpse of Liz belting out her favorite show tunes with her kids in a local piano bar.
