"How can I help?" asked Marc Weber when he first met with Circle of Care. Marc is the owner of ONTHEMARC, a full-service event catering company based in Norwalk, CT.
Marc is not only a leader in the catering industry, but he's also active in his community and places a high priority on giving back. "I want to leverage my business infrastructure to help others," says Marc, who regularly donates his food and time to support many local non-profits. "I can create more value through my business than by simply writing a check."
Last year, Marc approached Circle of Care after hearing about us through his mother, Linda Gornitsky, a philanthropic consultant who advises companies on corporate citizenship. When he learned about all the vital work Circle of Care was doing to support children with cancer and their families, he immediately wanted to help. Marc started by donating his services to cater our 20th Anniversary Party at our Barn in Wilton. "I wanted to bring smiles," remembers Marc. And with his warm, caring service and inventive gourmet menu, he certainly did. But Marc didn't stop there; his team also bakes delicious homemade cookies that go into curated birthday boxes we deliver to children undergoing cancer treatment. The cookies have become a favorite treat for these kids. Last month, he nominated Circle of Care for an award by !mpaCT, a group of young professionals he co-founded with friends that raises funds for local charities.
Marc is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. He has worked as a chef in various restaurants and as a private chef and was named one of the Most Innovative Chefs by the Greenwich Wine + Food Festival. He is also the author of his own cookbook. Twenty years ago, he started a catering business out of his parents' garage, which has since evolved into a leading contemporary catering company in the Tri-State Area, employing 40 full-time staff members and 600 part-time staff.
His success in helping his community through his business sets an inspiring example for other entrepreneurs. "If you put yourself out there, you never know how it will pay back," says Marc, "It feels so gratifying to be in a position to help others."
We are honored to collaborate with Marc and look forward to what our partnership will bring in the months and years ahead. We also invite other businesses to join us in our mission to support families with children who have cancer. There are many ways you can help - together, we can make a big difference!
