Our DreamRoom Makeover

Something to Look Forward to During Treatment

Cancer treatment is emotionally and physically draining, particularly for children who have to endure long hospital stays and extended periods of time at home, away from school and friends. Art From The Heart transforms a cancer patient’s room at home into a personal wonderland. We work with creative teams based in Fairfield, New Haven, New London, and Hartford Counties to make over each child’s room into the room of his or her dreams.

Since 2005, Circle of Care has transformed over 130 bedrooms and play areas in the homes of young patients with paint, fabric, furnishings and love – all inspired by the boundless imagination of the children.  Would you like to apply for a room makeover? Children in Connecticut ages 4-17 who are presently undergoing treatment are eligible to apply; recipients are chosen by lottery four times per year.

Read an inspiring story about Henry’s room makeover.  You can also read about how Sumera’s room helped bring her family together.

All of the design work is completed by adult and teen volunteers with assistance from local professional contractors who donate their time and expertise. The majority of our Art from the Heart teams are made up of high school and college students, who work under the guidance of adult designers. By interacting with their peers throughout a room makeover project, homebound children during cancer treatment benefit from kid-to-kid communication, a tremendous healing tool.
