On Saturday December 3rd, hundreds of people will join together to celebrate our Art from the Heart program, its founder, Karen Morgenbesser of Greenwich, and the completion of our 100th room.
Cancer treatment is emotionally and physically draining, particularly for children who have to endure long hospital stays and extended periods of time at home, away from school and friends. Art from the Heart transforms a cancer patient’s room at home into a personal wonderland. We work with creative teams throughout the state to make over each child’s room into the room of their dreams, while inspiring a meaningful form of service.
Art from the Heart is one of our most beloved programs, run by an exceptionally talented and dedicated artist, Karen Morgenbesser. Under Karen’s leadership, Circle of Care has transformed 100 bedrooms and play areas in the homes of young patients with paint, fabric, furnishings and love – all inspired by the boundless imagination of children in treatment for cancer. All of the design work is completed by adult and teen volunteers with assistance from local professional designers, who donate their time and expertise. By interacting with their peers throughout a room makeover project, homebound children are empowered, and benefit from kid-to-kid communication, a tremendous healing opportunity for the child, and an inspirational form of service for the volunteers.
